Meet The Instructor: Garry Kozak

For the past 30 years, Garry has been employed by Klein Associates of Salem, N.H., the technology leader in Side Scan Sonar systems. He is a recognized expert in undersea search operations and travels the world providing consulting and training expertise to Navies and companies who have a critical underwater search need. His responsibilities at Klein include marketing Klein products and providing practical user input to Klein’s engineering team on design considerations for the Klein sonar product line.

Garry began his underwater search and survey career in 1972, doing side scan sonar surveys off the coast of Labrador, for CanDive/Oceaneering. His commercial survey career continued through 1978, at which time he joined Klein Associates as a field engineer and training coordinator. His first task at Klein was to create a formal cohesive training program on side scan sonar equipment, applications, data interpretation and field operations. This training format has been successfully used for the past 27 years, and can be tailored to meet each customer’s unique requirements. The content and quality of the training has become so well known that it is not uncommon for an operator of a competitor’s side scan sonar system to attend or contract a training program by Klein Associates.

Not surprisingly Garry’s personal interests are the challenges presented by researching and searching for long lost shipwrecks or aircraft. When asked by some of his colleagues at Klein, “what are you doing on vacation”, his answer is usually “going on another shipwreck search”. Other interests include boating, bicycling, and most importantly, his family.
