Notes on the wreck:
The A.R.Noyes represents the most common commercial vessel to operate on Lake Champlain and its canal system. The canal barge had no independent power and was towed by steam tugs on the lake and river. On canals they were moved with horse and mule.
The A.R. Noyes is believed to have sunk on October 17 1884 when a number of canal boats broke loose from the steam tug TISDALE .
