The Burlington Bay Horse Ferry

Notes on the wreck:

The Horse Ferry Wreck was discovered in the fall of 1983 during a side scan sonar survey of the area. The idenety and date of construction have not yet been determined however study of this wreck is continuing.

This is a horse powered paddle wheel ferry. It is the only known surviving example of a "team-boat" once common in North America. These animal vessels were introduced in 1814 and reached peak usage in the 1830's and 40's for short distance river and lake crossings until steam power took over.

Size of the wreck is 63 feet long and 23 feet wide.
