KLEIN NAVIGATION SIGNS JOINT DISTRIBUTION AGREEMENT

WITH C.N.S. SYSTEMS, INC. FOR

UNIVERSAL AUTOMATIC IDENTIFICATION SYSTEMS

SALEM, NH, (May 6, 2002) Klein Navigation, a division of Klein Associates, Inc. announced today that they have signed a joint marketing and distribution agreement with C.N.S. Systems, Inc. of Sweden for Shipboard and Ground Station Universal Automatic Identification Systems.

The Universal Automatic Identification System (UAIS) is a broadcast transponder system operating in the VHF maritime band which provides data exchange from Ship to Ship, Ship to Shore and Shore to Ship. The UAIS receives and broadcasts, every 2 to 10 seconds while underway and every 3 minutes while at anchor. The system is capable of broadcasting: Vessel MMSI number, Navigation status, Rate of Turn, Speed over ground, position, and position accuracy, course over ground, true heading and time stamp.

The UAIS VDL-M Shipboard system comes complete with a Minimum Keyboard and Display (MKD), and provides output ports to allow alphanumeric and vector information to be overlaid on the ECDIS, ECS and Radar. The VDL-M (VHF Digital Link) Shipboard UAIS transponder is a self contained unit consisting of one VHF transmitter, two VHF receivers, one VHF DSC receiver, one embedded computer and a communications link to shipboard displays and sensors. The shipboard VDL-M is fully upgradeable, expandable with software, designed with all digital construction and has a MTBF of 50,000 hours.

The VDL-M conforms to IEC standards and is the perfect choice for ship owners in need of IMO Class A, high quality, cost effective transponders that are built to the same quality standards demanded by the aviation industry.

The relationship between C.N.S. Systems and Klein Navigation will augment the already existing Raytheon High Seas ARPA, ECDIS and / or ECS radar product line. “This equipment is deployable immediately with both mobile and ground units available and will provide real-time situational awareness without additional manpower” stated Michael Mitchell, General Manager for Klein Navigation.

Also offered are the VDL-M GS Ground Stations for Coastal Surveillance Networks or stand-alone applications such as port VTS/VTM. The Ground Station presents a new dimension to navigational information services. These services will greatly enhance safety by providing information such as weather related approach data, route advice and port related information.

The Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention V, Safety of Navigation, Regulation 19, Chapter 1.5 requires the fitting of AIS transponders on all ships of 300 gross tonnages and upwards engaged on international voyages, ships of 500 gross tonnage and upwards not engaged on international voyages and all passenger ships. The mandatory fitting schedule is phased in by vessel class and gross tonnage beginning on 1 July, 2001 for new-builds and ending on 1 July, 2008.

CNS Systems owns a worldwide license from the inventor, Mr. Hakan Lans, covering the rights to the UAIS technology required for the production and distribution of the equipment to SOLAS and Non-SOLAS ships.
