KLEIN NAVIGATION,
A DIVISION OF KLEIN ASSOCIATES, INC.

SHIPS FIRST SERIES 1000 INTRUSION DETECTION RADAR SYSTEMS
TO THE U.S. NAVY

SALEM, NH (November 7, 2002) Klein Navigation, a division of Klein Associates, Inc., completed the first phase shipment on schedule of the Series 1000 Intrusion Detection Radar Systems to the U.S. Navy for installation at four sites. Over lapping installations at the first four sites are scheduled to begin in November, 2002 with completion 90 days thereafter.

The Series 1000 Intrusion Detection Radar System is optimized to provide high probabilities of detection and tracking for small targets (swimmers and high speed small watercraft, such as RIBS and jet skis) in varying adverse sea state conditions. Depending on the site, first phase delivery consists of one or more Intrusion Detection Radar Systems linked to a centralized HarborGuard™ Command and Control (C2) Console, low light television and thermal imaging cameras and a Digital Video Recording sub-system. For the second phase delivery, Klein Associates, Inc. in partnership with Thales Underwater Systems of Templecombe, U.K. will provide multiple Diver Detection Sonar systems integrated into the HarborGuard™ Command and Control Console.

The fully integrated, highly reliable, Series 1000 Intrusion Detection Radar System can be rapidly deployed, has low maintenance costs, low false alarms and delivers consistent results with a user-friendly system design operated remotely from a main control room by unskilled personnel.

The Klein Series 1000 Intrusion Detection Radar consists of a modified Raytheon Pathfinder® ST 25 kW, X-Band Transceiver, pedestal and antenna array assembly that turns at 80 RPM (nominal) and the SeaScan RT Radar processor with SeaTrack 2000 target tracker (tracks 1000 targets).

The diver detection sonar design is unique in that it has the capability to reject interference from acoustic jamming and passing sea traffic, thus ensuring high performance in all operational conditions.

Securing every port and harbor worldwide against acts of terrorism is vital to the protection of both military and civil high value assets. This system was designed specifically to protect critical waterfront and floating assets against surface and underwater intruders.

Michael Mitchell, General Manager for Klein Navigation states “Klein is extremely proud to be in a position where we can use our technologies and those of our partners to contribute to our country’s Homeland Defense initiative.”
